About the Artist:
I had a great conversation this week with Joy. she is from LA and currently enrolled at CSULB metal art program. it’s her fifth year and she is graduating this semester. her dad was her biggest encouragement of being an artist. she works very hard and spends a lot of time on her art works. on her free times , Joy likes hanging out with her boy friend. cooking and reading are also her favorite activities.
As I mentioned before Joys’ major is metal. Through an introductory class that she took ,Joy found her passion in working with metals. metal is very practical but the process of creating an art work out of it requires a very hard work. she comes with an idea at first step.making concept sketch, paper model and copper sample are next steps that are needed to take towards final outcome.
Most of Joy’s works are inspired by emotions, human and environment. as she mentioned during our conversation she likes to play around with the ideas and would apply them to work when ever she feels is the right moment. basically her art work carries a part of herself she is sharing.
Walking through Joy’s gallery was very enjoyable. although her art pieces were very different from each other, I could see her signature on each art piece which makes her work original. her necklaces and “forest finger brace” were my favorite pieces.
